 Project Diva Branches Out...

                         ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Project DIVA was invited to see the fabulous play VENUS at the Ritz Theatre!  This play is full of self-esteem and finding oneself themes and we look forward to truly enjoying our DIVAS Day out  with the staff and cast of VENUS!
Dr. Margaret Kennedy, known to her friends as Maggie, has discovered the Fountain of Youth — an elixir that transforms her into VENUS: a version of herself that is many years younger, worlds sexier, and suddenly magically popular and talented. Through a series of comedic bumbles and mistaken identity, Venus is immediately catapulted to become the world’s biggest supermodel pop star, leaving behind her boyfriend Harry, her best friend Jo, and Maggie herself in the rush.
Project DIVAS Mentor Program and TelAvision.tv team up to Inspire Mentees and Give Back
What do you get when you connect two amazing people who:
  1. Care about Youth
  2. Care about the World
  3. Care about the Future of both of the above
You get a Mentor Program that provides its mentees with the opportunity to capture their affirmative visions for the future and a win-win all around.
And, that is what getting Wired for 2020 is all about!
Take a minute with me and allow me to share a story that will likely inspire and energize you.
Over the past three Saturday mornings, the Project DIVA Mentor program has hosted George Johnson from TelAVision.tv.  They invited him in to help them create and capture their vision for the future.
As George shares with people…
“We have become a nation of negativity and fear, much of it broadcast on television news. Unless we change our current course, we will become what we envision.”
That is exactly what George is hoping to eliminate with his new venture TelAVision.tv.  So, he is one by one, connecting with programs like Project DIVAS and creating hope and inspiration for our nation’s youth while he teaches them how to capture their vision for a productive life of their choice.
When I met Neda Kellogg, I knew she had a special program- she is a highly positive and inspired woman.  By founding Project DIVAS she has created a place for young ladies to chose a path of positive attitiude and affirmation and has created a healthy environment for them to blossom into productive adult women.
Connecting the dots of these two people to provide a positive Mentor/Mentee experience and a long term vision seemed a natural fit.
Fast forward to the final week of their Vision Video Capture Saturdays when I was invited to join in.
The energy and excitement in the room is equally balanced with thoughtfulness and commitment as these high school students create their vision videos with Neda and George’s support.  George works with them to find just the right images via the internet and the Telavision.tv portal and Neda coaches them on appropriate music and affirms their choices.  It is truly something out of a movie you would see.
The good news is you will be able to see their videos, at least a shorter version of them at our Wired for 2020 event at the Mall of America on 4.18.09 as the Project DIVAS Mentors & Mentees will be on hand with TelAVision.tv to help Minnesota’s youth and families create their own vision videos.
George Johnson and the Project DIVAS mentees will provide a few Main Stage training sessions throughout the day. Stay tuned for specific times and details.
  • West Market- Broadcast Stage area- the Mentoring Partnership Stage will be hosting a  TelAVision.tv  Vision Creation Stage staffed by the Project DIVAS youth volunteers and their mentors. The mentee volunteers will be conducting 30 minute vision creation sessions supported by George Johnson of TelAVision.tv at the top and bottom of each hour.
  • ~~~~~~~~~FACT SHEET~~~~~~~~~
    What is Project Diva?
    Project Diva is a non-profit organization designed to instill life skills in young ladies.  Project Diva’s mentors share how having self-respect leads to making better choices through topics of discussion, break-out sessions, journaling and speakers that will prepare them to handle real life situations throughout high school and into adulthood.
    Does it cost?
    No.  There is no cost to the young ladies!
    What is E-mentoring?
    E-mentoring is mentoring through e-mailing.  This technique allows for Project Diva Consultants to be contacted throughout the day and on weekends.  This one-on-one opportunity opens communication lines by offering confidential, individualized attentions to the participants.
    Where is Project Diva located?
    Project Diva is currently at the Sumner Library, 611 Van White Mem. Blvd., Minneapolis , 55411.
    Who are involved?
    Neda Kellogg, Founder; Etosha Cook - Events Coordinator, Shanina Butler -Research Data Analysis Coordinator, Sheila Shelton - Hairstylist & Make-up Artist, Patrice Cox - Financial Literacy Coordinator, Karen Kupfer-Johnson - Academic Coordinator, Cassandra Davis - DIVA Consultant Trainer.  All these ladies are partners in making Project Diva a success.  These Diva Consultants are equipped to ensure program excellence.
    What are Project Diva Objectives?
    Project Diva objectives are to have every young lady complete the program with a clearer understanding of their worth.  To achieve this objective each participant begins with a beginning headshot and a goal sheet and ends with a “Portfolio of Achievements” binder that includes the headshot, the goal sheet, one letter of recommendation from a professional acquaintance, an ending headshot and the graduation certificate from Project Diva.
    Why haven't you become involved with Project Diva?
    Project Diva is unique because the program deals with true-to-life situations.  Unlike many other programs in the Twin Cities, Project Diva focuses on each participant’s individual growth.  Project Diva supports young women where they are at in their life at the time they enroll through one-on-one and group consulting.  It is Project Diva’s commitment to ensure that a connection in the community is made to assist if outside help is needed.
